Narcissists believe they are superior to others
Narcissism manifests itself in the belief that one is superior to another. Narcissists have an overinflated sense of their own worth and think they are superior to others in most or all aspects of life.
Their attitudes and behaviors towards others often reflect this sense of superiority. They may be condescending or dismissive towards others or have an air superiority which makes it difficult to approach them or get along.
Narcissists Struggle with Healthy Connections
Narcissism also manifests in the inability to form healthy relationships with others. Narcissists see other people as mere objects that can be used to their advantage, not as real human beings with feelings and needs.
They have difficulty forming real, meaningful relationships. Although they may have many superficial acquaintances, they find it difficult to keep close relationships with family and friends. They can appear cold and distant, making it hard for others to be close to them.
Narcissists need constant validation and praise
Narcissists are often driven by a need to be validated and praised. They want your attention, and to constantly be reassured of their importance and specialness. If they are rejected or criticised, they can react with anger.
They may manipulate and control others by using trickery and deception in order to gain the approval they seek. If they do not get what they want, they will react with anger.
Narcissists blame others for their own failures
Narcissists will quickly blame others when things go wrong. They are entitled and think they shouldn’t be held accountable for anything.
You can see this in their tendency of blaming others for negative outcomes they may have experienced. Some people may not want to apologize or admit they were wrong because they think it is weak.
Narcissists identify as Narcissists
Narcissists are usually not ashamed or guilty of their personality or behavior. They may not see any wrong in their actions or be unaware of the impact their behavior has on others.
You can expect them to say yes without hesitation or regret if you ask. Although they may be aware of these traits, they don’t believe that it is wrong to have them. Some may even view it as a positive characteristic and a sign or strength.
Narcissists have difficulty listening and being honest
Narcissists have a hard time listening to other people and telling the truth. They can be deceptive or manipulative to get what you want.
To get what they want, they may use flattery, threats, or charm. Others may be made to feel guilty or ashamed by using guilt or shame. They are very good at mind games, and they can manipulate others without their knowledge.
