What are the different types of diets?
There is a wide variety of diets that are suitable for both men and women. Each has its own benefits.
Mediterranean Diet
According to some health experts, a Mediterranean-style diet can help you lose weight, maintain a healthy heart, and even prevent diabetes. Several studies suggest that this diet can reduce the risk for Alzheimer’s.
A study conducted in 2015 showed that women who are overweight or obese may experience a delayed menopause if they follow this diet. According to results, Spanish women following the Mediterranean diet experienced lower BMIs and possibly fewer menopause symptoms.
This healthy eating plan is based on fruits, vegetables, almonds and olive oil.
DASH Diet
Scientists discovered that the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet (DASH) can reduce blood-pressure and, in certain cases, excess weight. Hypertension is a condition that some women experience after menopause.
A study conducted in 2017 showed that women aged 70 and older who adhered to the DASH diet performed better on cognitive decline as well as maintenance .
A 2017 study found that the DASH diet could lower the rate of cesarean sections for pregnant women with diabetes .
MIND Diet
The MIND diet is an amalgamation of Mediterranean and DASH eating habits. It is designed to slow down the progression of neurodegenerative diseases.
Some research has shown that the MIND diet can help to slow down mental decline in older adults and reduce their risk of Alzheimer’s. It is possible that the MIND diet may be particularly beneficial to women. However, men may also benefit from it.
A study in 2020 conducted on Iranian women found that those following the MIND diet were 50% less likely to develop breast cancer.
Flexitarian Diet
Flexitarians are semi-vegetarians who occasionally eat fish or meat.
A 2016 study also found that women were more likely to follow a flexitarian eating plan than men. According to this study, flexitarian diets also lower the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and inflammatory intestinal disease. They also promote a healthy body weight.
